Getting ready for church
What should I wear? You will see a range of styles, mostly business casual to jeans. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and will allow you to enjoy the worship service. You will be welcome no matter how you dress!
Getting to the church
Where are you? Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church is located at 3016 Lanier Dr., NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319. We are one block off of Peachtree Road behind Oglethorpe University at the corner of Lanier Drive and Woodrow Way. We are easily accessible from Peachtree Road, Ashford Dunwoody, and Windsor Parkway.
There is a map locating the church on our Contact page, but if you need more detailed directions, feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 404.233.5469.
Where should I park? We have plenty of parking in our upper lot, which is best accessed from Lanier Drive. We have reserved spots for first-time visitors next to the playground. If the lot is full, you may park on Lanier Drive. Those who have trouble walking far will want to park in the designated spaces in our upper lot.
How do I get in? Most people enter the church building through the double glass doors from the upper parking lot. Greeters will meet you and can answer any questions you might have. Those who have trouble walking far will want to follow the ADA signs and enter through the sanctuary’s rear entrance, avoiding any stairs in the process.
The Sanctuary is down the small flight of stairs to the right. The church offices, nursery for younger children, rest rooms and adult Sunday School classes are to the left of the entrance. Children’s Sunday School classrooms and child-friendly restrooms are to the right of the entry. You don’t need to memorize this: your greeter will show the way!
What about Sunday School? We offer Christian Education classes for all ages, adults and children, starting at 9:45 am. You can see more details on our educational offerings on our Christian Education page.
What do I do with my children? We love children! Our Nursery is always available but never required. What you do with your children is up to you. Some families choose to have their children sit in worship with them; others prefer to have their children in the Nursery. Others children stay for part of the worship service and then transition to the Nursery. What is most important is that you do what helps you and your family worship God.
The back of our sanctuary features children’s books and portable desks with crayons that can be taken anywhere in the sanctuary. We have several rocking chairs in the back as well for those who prefer the comfort.
Our Nursery is staffed each Sunday by a child care professional and at least one Oglethorpe volunteer. All who work with children abide by our Child Protection Policy. Children in the Nursery are brought into the Sanctuary for the Time with Young Disciples, a part of the service geared toward their particular age group.
What about worship? Our worship service begins 11am and typically lasts an hour. As you enter the sanctuary, an usher will give you a bulletin outlining the order of worship. We also project our worship information if you would prefer to follow along on the screen. Our ushers and greeters are happy to answer any questions you might have about the worship service.
There are Bibles and hymnals in each pew, along with several cards. These include a description of the current worship series, a blue card to share prayer requests, and a yellow visitor card that you can fill out so we can contact you with more information about Oglethorpe Presbyterian.
