The Rev. Jihyun Oh – Interim Pastor

Jihyun OhJihyun is a 1.5-generation Korean-American who grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City, KS. Her family consists of her parents, who live in Decatur and are actively involved in international mission, and her brother and sister-in-law, who live in New York City.

In 1992, Jihyun left Kansas to attend college in Boston. She graduated with a B.S. in biology and a B.S. in German Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and served as a volunteer staffworker of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at MIT while doing research in a biology laboratory. In 1998, she moved to Miami to change careers and worked in a brokerage firm for a couple of years. During this time, she received her M.S. in Finance from Florida International University. Shortly afterward, she began to feel a call to ministry, and in 2003, enrolled at Columbia Theological Seminary, from which she graduated with an M.Div. She is currently a D.Min. candidate in the Church and Ministry track at Columbia Seminary.

Jihyun was ordained in 2007 as Minister of Word and Sacrament, and took her first call in a suburban congregation in the Chicago area as Associate Pastor for Contemporary Worship and Children and Family Ministries. She left that call to be a chaplain resident at Grady Memorial Hospital and went on staff at Grady as the chaplain for the ICU’s and the Stroke Center. During this time, she also served as the Parish Associate at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church (Stone Mountain).

An important part of Jihyun’s call is to minister in situations of crisis: the crisis of loss, trauma, and/or transition, among others. She believes this is where the greatest opportunities lie to see God recreate, redeem, and sustain churches and individuals in ways we may never have imagined before. She does this work, not only as interim pastor of congregations, but also as a member of the Presbytery’s Shalom Team. She is currently the Moderator-Elect of Presbytery and also a member of the Board of the PC(USA) Foundation.

Jihyun enjoys gathering around the table with friends and family. She is a new cello learner and also likes to try her hand at new ways of staying active, including Stand-Up Paddleboarding, Zumba, and Yoga.
